Abstract

Regional development improvement represents one of the key commitments which success is constantly being evaluated by the European Union, and is directly related to the position which the Republic of Serbia holds in the accession process. This science paper highlights the importance of regional development and the degree of regionalization in Serbia, as well as the level of influence for the four financial instruments of the European Union and their individual contribution to regional development and cooperation. The four described instruments, which have contributed most to the regional development of Serbia, are: „Community Assistance for Reconstruction, Development and Stabilisation“, the first and second „Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance - IPA“ and „The European Support to Municipal Development Programme - EU PRO“.
