Abstract

In an attempt to establish a market-oriented economy in the post-socialist period (like other transition economies) Serbia faced (and faces) to the serious challenges of creating economic system, formation of appropriate and necessary institutions and the introduction of order in society with the aim of improving economic performance. In this context, corporate governance has been seen as a crucial part of the reform process. The reforms are particularly necessary in the public sector, especially from the standpoint of improving management in enterprises owned fully or partially by the state.
