Abstract

This paper will present current trends in consulting as well as an overview of the key results of the survey on views on consulting among managers in Serbia. A review of relevant literature indicates that throughout history many organizations have significantly improved their business performance, since they overcame the problems they have encountered, and became a stable operating system, thanks to the assistance of external experts. This claim might be supported with the fact that the global consulting market is now worth nearly $350 billion. On the other hand, organizations that operate in Serbia often do not have financial resources that would create conditions to hire such experts. However, it is encouraging that a large number of managers that had participated in this survey recognized their importance and they believe that organizations should use this kind of assistance, if such need arises. It is also important to emphasize that there is an overall view that the benefits that can be expected justify such investments, and that local organizations can expect certain improvements if they choose an option of hiring consultants.
